John Fuchs, a native of Austria, came to the United States with his wife, Kay, in 1934. In New York City they started a successful business in the fashion industry.
In the early 1940's, John Fuchs' spiritual journey led him to the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff and the books of his pupils P.D. Ouspensky and Kenneth Walker. Mr. Fuchs studied the Gurdjieff tradition in the groups of John Pentland, who was the head of the New York Gurdjieff Foundation and all of its branches. Lord Pentland accepted him as a student and ultimately asked him to direct the Gurdjieff Group in Denver, Colorado.
In a simple and clear style Mr. Fuchs describes how to practice the "work on oneself" which forms the heart of the Gurdjieff tradition. We are given examples from modern daily life which invite us to examine how our own experiences can help us to see ourselves better. Practical exercises and engaging stories reveal sides of the Gurdjieff Work that are not often seen. Mr. Fuchs offers a practical way to begin living a life that is more conscious and awake.
